A Celestial Church of Christ evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, have reportedly died in separate circumstances following an alleged domestic altercation at their residence in Akinode/Ibogun, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 1am on Monday, August 25, after a disagreement between the couple allegedly turned physical. Their son reportedly raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the house, where they found Adenike unconscious and lying in a pool of blood.
Community members said there was initially no vehicle available to transport her to the hospital.
A former Chairman of the Community Development Association, Adejimi Olawumi, said residents later discovered that Abidemi was missing and began searching for him.
According to him, the community was subsequently informed that the cleric had allegedly been hit by a vehicle in Ifo. Police reportedly took him to a hospital, where he was identified.
Abidemi’s younger sister also claimed that the couple had a history of disagreements. She said they had visited her around April following another fight, which was eventually resolved at a police station.
She said she had advised the couple to be patient with each other and avoid fighting.
Adenike was reportedly buried on August 25, while Abidemi was buried on Wednesday, September 2. Footage from the burial also showed clerics performing burial rites over the evangelist’s remains.
The exact circumstances surrounding the deaths remained unclear as of the time of filing the report.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Opeyemi Oluborode, however, confirmed the incident.
